Dear 5th Grade Families,

Welcome to Grade 5!  My name is Ms. Gallardo and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year.  I am fortunate to be joining the fifth grade team and Bowman Community. For students, grade 5 will be full of new learning discoveries, increased independence, peer collaboration, and growth.  I am eager to begin this new learning journey with your child.
This is my 5th year teaching. I previously taught 3rd and 5th grade in Somerville.  I graduated with my Bachelors Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Psychology and Art History. I received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education and English as Second Language from Lesley University.  While completing my Masters, I completed a full year teaching internship at the Argenziano School in Somerville. As an educator, I am enthusiastic about continuing to seek new professional learning opportunities such as project-based learning, mindfulness for classroom, or new classroom technology. In fifth grade, I hope to implement some of these practices this school year.
On the first day of school, August 28th, your child should bring the following:
  • a family picture, we will share these during the first week of school and display them in our classroom
  • independent reading book, there will be opportunities each day in fifth grade for independent reading
  • a snack- the first day is a half day and dismissal is at 12:15  (please send a note along with your student if there are any changes for dismissal)
*All school supplies (folders, pencils, markers, etc.) will be provided throughout the school year as need.
Your child is welcome to bring their own writing utensils if they would like.

Please feel free to email or call with any questions or concerns. I believe by working together your child can have a successful fifth grade experience. Enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to great school year!

Sincerely,
                                                                         Ms.Gallardo
